Week-End Roundup

436018701_l.jpgIt’s been as quiet as it’s been loud this week on mikull. The feature story- the big redesign launch. Well received all around. The feedback was tremendous! I must admit, I really appreciated everyone who took time out to drop me line- I’m not going to name names, but for the dozen or so of you who e-mailed and called me personally… the site is interactive. I love having you as silent readers, but I would enjoy seeing you all post your thoughts as well. Whenever you’re ready.

On the boards this week, we had 2 big milestones. First and foremost, the #1 poster of all time has been answered. As of this posting, TMH and leefeler both sported 1322 posts. By the time you all read this, leef will surely have passed TMH. In a brief discussion, leef noted that a new ranking was in order… little did he know, there is a higher ranking than Jedi Council (thanks to TMH). Perhaps someday soon we will all find out what it is.

Milestone #2: the return of the almighty Caption of the Week. in our same IM conversation, leefeler noted:

(leefeler) It’s about time we had a caption pic
(mikull) i know… i know. 2 months since the last. but mikull.com is in full effect now!
(leefeler) jesus, it’s more important than upgrading Mikull.com

Fair enough… For you sharp eyed folk, there’s a new link accessible from this (and future) caption pic posts where you can view a gallery of all our past pics. We are rapidly approaching 100 captions in all- I wonder if there is something special we could do to showcase all those good times? Feel free to send along your ideas.

Aside from that, the boards were a bit quiet this week… with good reason. For local folk, we’ve had a Nor’easter - or so the news says. It’s made for one hell of a time on the roads, even though the snow didn’t pile too high. Personally, I like the spring and summer a whole lot more than this madness. We also had Valentine’s Day on Wednesday- a hallmark holiday from my point of view, but then again, there’s nothing wrong with having an excuse to give out a kiss or two. I hope you all took time out to bring the sexy back.

And Now She’s Dead: Anna Nicole Smith
Quite a number of reads on this one - being the talk of the media town. We usually shrug to such things, but who can help not notice this Hollywood story? My wife pointed out that I really have no clue about the story, but overall I gotta say it - I don’t feel bad about it. Something about her lifestyle and choices in marriage always made me gaze upon her with condescension. I wouldn’t wish death on the girl, but it’s no wonder there were more tabloid headlines than tears. I guess I’ll catch up when the TV special comes out. Or, I won’t…

Bill to Ban iPods and Cellphones in NY
This story was submitted by one of our non-posting readers to me, and my thanks. It’s pretty annoying when they need to pass laws so people will pay attention… Though, the pedestrian supposedly has the rightof way in all cases- so isn’t really the people who are driving that cause all the problems? Personally, I consider myself a pedestrian who happens to be driving, so I technically always have the right of way. Nonetheless, I heard on the radio they want to ’spice up’ the I LOVE NY slogan. I guess we could start with “I Love NY, where self-involved, oblivious assholes are now fair game, lawbreaking, road targets.” This is what happens when you take the hookers off of 42nd St.

Transformers, Pan’s Labrinth and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End all got updates this week. There’s no avoiding the monster Transformers thread, but I’m more interested in catching Pan’s right now- and the bunch of other new horror / thrillers we’ve been talking about in the movies section. And the summer? Woo-boy!

Damien’s been sneaking in more music talk than we’ve seen since last year with Panic! At the Disco, New Dinosaur Jr.!, Fall Out Boy, and New Lifetime - all good times for everyone here who likes to ROCK. Thanks Damien, for keeping it real! Lifetime was a big one for me. The early ’90s were a big time in music for me- this was back when ‘emo’ meant something differently entirely- It was another name for ‘post-hardcore’, a scene- a good type of music. I was just getting into high school, and the top records on my shelf were by Lifetime, Falling Forward and Split Lip. The sound on the new record is dead on, and just as good as back then. Two thumbs up- and easily my top story for the week.

Curiously absent this week was any comments on The Police playing at the Grammy’s. Yeah, I don’t watch that commercial bullshit either- but I should of. I love The Police. Speaking of which- check the post. I’m looking for a few good Rewards Zone members to sniff out some ticket info!

In gaming we’ve noted Manhunt 2 and God of War 2 as exciting prospects, along with our typical PS3 trash session- and since the SuperBowl it’s crickets again in the sports pages. Even the funny bone has been quiet, but right before I posted this, I also posted Gates vs. Jobs - one hilarious video geeks and computer users will enjoy. Definetely check that one out.

So there’s our week. I’m working on some follow up coding left out of the re-launch, so keep your eyes peeled for more. Suggestions for some fun, interactive stuff you’d like to see on the site is always welcome- just drop a line. I’m also up for some suggestions / commencts on what you might love to read about in the Roundup. Be heard!
