Transformers Most Pirated Film and Best Selling DVD in 2007
Transformers Movie named the Most Pirated Film of 2007 - TFW2005: In a somewhat dubious honor, the filesharing news blog TorrentFreak has compiled a list of most pirated movies in 2007. According to a representative sample from one torrent site, Transformers topped the movie list for last year.
Ironically, Transformers sold over 190,000 HD DVDs in its first week, making it the fastest and best-selling week one release on either high definition format as well as the best selling HD DVD ever. Transformers is also the top-selling October DVD release in the history of the home entertainment industry.
Not scientific evidence disproving the correlation between dropping entertainment markets and peer to peer piracy; nevertheless, I think it reinforces arguments against the MPAA’s claims that piracy is hurting the industry. Reminds me how Radiohead gave people the option to download their record for free and still made millions. Unfortunately we live in capitalistic society where both greed and theft are immoral, but only one is against the law. The working man can’t win, I know. I just get worked up is all.
Beware: the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) are actively tracing movie and music pirates through their high-speed connection service providers and educational institutions, and have issued many subpoenas resulting in hundreds of lawsuits and thousands of dollars in settlements.
