This is Sparta! Spring Forward!
Now that the government controls time itself, daylight saving for spring arrived- did you adjust your clocks? Unfortunately, there is no spring is my step, and I did not yet see 300. I am sick, and feeling miserable. I’ve been talking about 300 since last July, so of course I was sad not to go this weekend. Speaking of sick, our friend and fellow board lurker Erin recently visited the hospital to have her appendix troubles taken care of. Our other friend Jody went through the same thing not so long ago, so I can empathize from his descriptions. Get well soon!
Although I did not need to go to the emergency room like Erin, I probably should have taken a few sick days last week. For some strange reason I felt compelled to go into work. I paid the price this past weekend, all the while trying to do the things I normally do- with my wife working the hours she does, my chores are important. I suspect this just consumed sorely needed energy to combat the cold, however. It’s somewhat comical, but for as long as I can remember I always got sick during lent. Being Catholic, I of course have interesting notions about this and my soul. Guilt is part of the membership.
Sometimes I suspect I do it to myself because of the hours my wife works, and her lack of sick days. Duane Reade apparently needs a note from the hospital (or coroner). The concept of our combined weekly routine is entirely lost on most of our family and friends. When we communicate our life to others, it sometimes seems only my mother and my boss understand. God bless mothers. It’s frustrating though, listening to the advice and ramblings of others who are essentially devoid of empathy. Considering our age, responsibilities, and general place in life, I’m pretty damn proud of our accomplishments, and moreover our relationship. If we didn’t have each other, we might be totally lost. It was good to have her close this weekend, as I wandered around moaning and talking to the dog. Ah well, I’m getting a bit banana sandwich here again. Must be all the medication I’m talking. Hopefully I’ll be better soon, and then catching some bloody 300 action!
