The Human Cost of Occupation

Bottom of the 13th inning, Yankees fighting the A’s on the west coast, providing late night baseball for the American League. My wife has been sleeping softly on the couch, and the pooch only up to bark at the goat in Aflac commercials. He’s up every time for that goat, and YESHD has played it after every inning. I’ve been surfing the net between at-bats, when one video on YouTube caught me off guard and struck a nerve.
I was happy the Yankees won- but I describe the scene in hopes of helping you to realize the comfort of your situation as you check the embedded movie ‘Remember Me’ by Lizzie Palmer. It’s only a couple of minutes, it’s about our soldiers overseas, and it’s well worth your time.

I won’t speak much here of those stationed overseas in the ‘War on Terror’. I’m too tired to jump into an angry political rant, or to go in great detail about the war in general… The words touching and sad are all that really come to mind while watching this powerful video clip. Hats off to Lizzie Palmer.

As of this writing, Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraq Freedom have claimed 3,563 fatalities. It seems clear to me that the war at this point is questionable; which, even more than the human element presented in the video, defines the sadness any logical human being might feel about our occupations since 9/11. I wonder if George Bush has trouble sleeping at night. Surely whispers of doubt and the ghosts of those lost haunt his thoughts. For more: I’ve found washingtonpost.com to have a great section called Faces of the Fallen. The opinionated antiwar.com also has accurate numbers and useful links.
