New on DVD: February 2006
February is here, along with Cupid and a new batch of DVD’s for your consideration. Whether you’re looking to add to your collection, make a note for your Netflix or Blockbuster accounts, or just decide on a ‘wait for cable’- mikull.com once again has the best monthly movie list for your consideration. Remember eveything’s linked to amazon if you’re looking for more info.
Enough with the filler, let’s jump straigh to my picks for the month. I am thinking good things about Wallace & Gromit, Mirrormask, Rent, and Lady & the Tramp.. and Doom! Yes! …Wait- NO! God, what was the Rock thinking? I really believe the Rock has some talent, and it’s wasted here, although the hype and testosterone factor I guess makes it worth mentioning..
For a Disney classic, Lady and the Tramp is a no brainer for any Disney DVD collection. Bertman and Pat might be interested in it- speaking of which; it’s not pictured, but PatPer might be on the lookout for the first release of Who’s That Girl on DVD this month as well
I have mentioned and will mention “double dip” in my DVD posts here, and I wanted to take a moment to make sure you all know what I meant. It’s an industry term for releasing multiple versions of the same movie on disc. Though the trend isn’t brand-new, it has picked up steam in recent years as American consumers spend more on DVDs and studios seek new ways to capitalize on the medium’s popularity.
…But mikull, you say, we want romance for Valentine’s Day! After I slap you silly for buying into this ludicrous hallmark holiday- I’ll take time out for romance on DVD this month. This is very difficult for me because I am man, and I suspect Doom would be a welcome watch for me personally over any of the following new releases- but I’m assuming you all are interested in romance with your significant other.
A double dip of Breakfast at Tiffany’s awaits you. A classic movie, so I suppose I shouldn’t talk shit about the double dip. Just Like Heaven has some sort of ghost chick, so the sex scenes will probably be lacking. Elizabethtown features the secret romance between Spiderman’s wife and Legolas. For sweet and TV rated don’t forget Die Hard, character cast Bruce in Moonlighting- on the other hand Eros and the Unbearable Lightness of Being look like you could score some strong sexuality. Look, whatever you do- don’t buy 13 going on 30, because if I find out I’m coming to your house to personally slap the taste out of your mouth. If you’re a single man living alone, you get a bonus kick in your Jennifer Garner.
I’m terribly interested in the Wallace and Gromit- I always remember it being funny when I caught it on cable. Waiting looks like complete trash comedy- but who knows. Yeah, you’re right, who am I kidding. Well, we have a lot of Al Pacino to make up for it this month- nothing really new, but nothing you should miss either. I always loved Dog Day Afternoon.
Growing Pains Season 1 at last! Who the fuck sits at home watching Growing Pains? I know I watch some weird shit- but is every single retro series really worth it? I’m getting kinda tired of mentioning TV-DVD series; so if it’s all the same with all of you, I’ll just assume if you were really waiting for Golden Girls or NYPD Blue this month, you probably didn’t need me to tell you about it.
One I might need to mention is Mirrormask, though. This looks like an exciting, visual treat- Neil Gaiman is part of the creation team- which fans of the Sandman should pop up from hearing. I might do a blind buy on this one just because it intrigues me so much. RENT hits shelves this month as well- and I’ll mention you need not be turned off by this. I know a couple of people who enjoyed the broadway show who also told me they enjoyed the movie. Class of 1984 runs into class right before the bell. This is one of those flicks you just need to see, but perhaps not necessarily own. Saw II and Zathura interest me just enough to make mental notes for cable, and that about wraps up my rant for the month. As usual, we got some cover galleries and more complete listings for you- Check it out the release calendar:
