Joystiq has obtained two scans from an anonymous tipster that reveal a new survey conducted by Listen Research for Rock Band 2. Participants were shown two different box art concepts and asked the following:

    * Indicate which of the two covers below would attract you more if you were shopping for a new game in a store.
    * Indicate which game box cover you believe is a better fit with the description of the game.

"Rock Band 2 lets you and your friends play as a virtual 4-person band, in person or online, to rock out to some of the biggest rock anthems from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. Rock Band 2 will be a full featured sequel, similar to full featured sequels you see released by other big video game franchises, such as Need for Speed, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, or Halo. there are alot of great songs in this one!

The reviews for Rock Band 2 acknowledge that the game doesn't do anything radically new, but the improvements are enough to justify its existence. For those who don't have friends living close by, being able to play World Tour mode online will certainly be a vast improvement on the original's main method of solo gameplay. The game doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it sure does put some sweet rims on it.

Giant Bomb (5/5): "... With its large library of licensed master recordings and vastly improved approach to multiplayer play, Rock Band 2 is a terrific value at both ends. It's both a must-own for fans of the genre and a great place for new players to get started."

GamePro (5/5): "It's more Rock Band and that is not a bad thing at all. With a new setlist of songs and more features, it's a no-brainer for anyone who loved the first Rock Band."

OXM (90/100): "The game's true enhancements come in areas that are arguably more important than playing dress-up. This time, there's no guitar career or drum career; there is only the Tour. The Tour is whatever you want it to be - a solo path through the venues of the world (on any or all instruments - switch between them at will), or a shot at stardom with up to three friends, whether they're in the room or across the country (thanks to the brilliant and long overdue Xbox Live support for co-op careers)."

IGN (90/100): "Rock Band 2 improves in several areas over the original. The track list is better, the difficulty has been bumped up, it's more accessible, all previously released DLC works from the get-go, and Battle of the Bands is a brilliant online mode. But there's no getting around the fact that almost nothing was done to the main mode, World Tour. This is still the primary feature of Rock Band and yet it seems to have been neglected. It's hard to notice the newness when there's a big chunk of game that is just the same as it ever was."

The really cool thing that will make me buy Rock Band 2 is the xferable content.  For an additional $5 you can trasnfer and 55 songs from rock band 1 to rock band 2, plus all downloaded content is already compatible with rock band 2.  Very well played on harmonix part.  It's almost silly not to buy the new one.

Sorry Mike.  Couldn't help myself on that one.  Lol

AC/DC is certainly one of the most rocking bands in the world, but I'm kind of baffled why they chose to sell their last album exclusively at Wal-Mart, one of the least rocking companies in America. The mystery deepens, as the long-rumored AC/DC Live Rock Band Track Pack will also be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart, which, while it makes financial sense, doesn't rock. At all.

Kotaku says the "Track Pack" will be $30-40 bucks, be released in November, and contain a non-whopping 18 songs, which is also significantly not rocking. Now, the songs are supposed to be playable in Rock Band 1 and 2, but that likely mean they can be exported over, since making them available as a download would negate the Wal-Mart exclusivity. I guess it all comes down to how much you're willing to pay to play "Thunderstruck."

Not being an AC/DC fan, this news does nothing for me.
