Memorial Day Weekend 2006

memorial-dayYou couldn’t ask for a better weekend. Summer has arrived, so Michelle and I tackled the yard for three days. One would think that a small yard wouldn’t require days of Cool Hand Luke sweatin’ to turn around- but of course, it did. We cleaned out the entire bricked area in front of the house and gave all the trees monster haircuts. Dug out a 2′ by 16′ area along the fence and planted a whole bunch of new stuff- including four all new 6′ fern trees. We had dozens of trash bags, an entire inner fencing ripped out by yours truly and grass seed everywhere. I brought in 90 new wall bricks in to create a garden retainer wall, as well as a new barbecue. Final day Michelle repainted the guard rails and door, while I took my Uncle’s shop vac to the lawn after witnessing our glass picnic table spontaneously shatter. It was a lot of work, I’m in a new world of pain- but overall it was a job well done. Besides, you know what they say: love your neighbor, but don’t pull down your hedge. We just needed to get one up was all.
