Future of Web Design
Today I attended the Future of Web Design conference in NYC with colleague Alicia. This was initially her finding, but I’m glad I got the opportunity to go. If you check out the site, you’ll see some of the greater speakers and topics we had a chance to see, along with a attendee-contributed flickr gallery.
It’s always inspiring to listen to the top minds in the web design industry; after all, aside from my coworkers, it’s not every day I’m surrounded by people who do what I do. I found Joshua Davis particularly engaging - his presentation reminded me why I do what I do. In addition, I found Ryan Singer’s simple approach to design and development refreshing and insightful. Of course it’s always nice to hear Jeffrey Zeldman speak his mind about the industry - he always seems to articulate exactly what I’m thinking perfectly.
I took this and a lot more away from the presentations, including renewed expectations for CSS3, a different take on designing for alternate communication mediums, and nice little rant called Destroying The Web 2.0 Look. Reflected logos, gradients, diagonal lines, luminous colours… begone. Rock. Anyways, if you’re a developer and didn’t make the show, you can purchase some videos of it all on the site. All in all, a nice conference I would probably attend again if given the chance.
